BOOKS:

  1. The Unexpected Journey of Caring - The Transformation from Loved One to Caregiver by Donna Thomson and Zachary White.  Rowman & Littlefield, (2019).

    I highly recommend this book!  The authors truly understand the experience of becoming a caregiver.  They discuss the emotional territory, the importance being an advocate, and the need for self-care.  It is an authentic description of the challenges while also pointing out the opportunities for growth and connection.

  2. Legacies from the Living Room: A Love-Grief Equation by Debbie Parker Oliver by Outskirts Press (2019).
    An award-winning book written with wisdom and compassion by Debbie Oliver that shares the experience of caring for her husband who was diagnosed with Stage IV cancer and how they managed throughout his illness.  

  3. The Caregiver's Encyclopedia: A Compassionate Guide to Caring for Older Adults by Muriel R. Gillick. Baltimore: Johns Hopkins University Press, (2020).
    Written by a geriatrician and covers information on a wide range of topics to support and inform caregivers including what Medicare covers, considering nursing homes or assisted living, making medical decisions and how to prevent caregiver burnout.

  4. Passages in Caregiving: Turning Chaos into Confidence by Gail Sheehy.  Harper Collins Publishers (2010).
    In this guide, the author outlines nine crucial steps for effective, successful family caregiving, during this crucial life stage.
